Russell Simmons Backs Mayor Bloomberg

By Elle Castro

Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons publicly endorsed New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s campaign.

Yesterday (Oct. 30) Mayor Bloomberg attended a mayoral rally in the Bronx, NY. The rally was held inside a Co-Op City auditorium. Simmons spoke on the progress that Mayor Bloomberg has made in NYC regarding homelessness and poverty.

This is the first time Simmons has endorsed a Republican candidate.

Last year, both Bloomberg and Simmons squared off in a debate regarding the Rockerfeller Drug Laws.
“Over the last four years he’s been on the steps of City Hall politely screaming…,” said Bloomberg. “I always shake my head as I walk by but we always stop and chit-chat.”

Dame Dash Gets Hit with a Lawsuit

By Elle Castro

On Oct. 11 there was a lawsuit filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court accusing Damon Dash of allegedly stealing the idea behind the new Hip-Hop reality series, “The Ultimate Hustler” from two producers out of LA.

The plaintiffs in the case, John Rhodes and John Coleman, are seeking monetary damages from Dash for Breach of Confidence and Breach of Implied In-Fact.

Rhodes and Coleman believe that Dame stole the plot of the “Ultimate Hustler” from a similar show that they registered with the Writers Guild of America in Los Angeles in Feb. 2004 entitled “Mogul.”

The concept behind “Mogul” is to have contestants compete against one another in various urban obstacles for the prize of a top executive position at a record label or artist management company.

The court documents stated that the plaintiffs met with Dash in March 2004 to pitch their idea of “Mogul.” Dash was interested when he heard of the show, but said that it needed further development before he jumped aboard.

According to plaintiffs, Dash agreed to keep the concept for “Mogul” confidential.

Rhodes and Coleman’s attorney alleged that Dash breached his agreement by airing the “Ultimate Hustler,” without compensating and/or obtaining their permission.

The plaintiffs are seeking a judgment against Dash for punitive damages, damages for loss of past, present and future economic losses, special damages and general damages in this lawsuit.

By Elle Castro

West Coast rapper, The Game was arrested on Friday (Oct. 28) in Greensboro, NC.

Game, whose real name is Jayceon Terrell Taylor, was wearing a Halloween mask while at the Four Seasons Town Center shopping. The police approached Taylor and asked him to remove his mask, but he refused. At first the authorities did not know that he was celebrity; however, when they realized who he was Game still refused to cooperate and remove his mask.

Game started acting hostile and causing a scene as he yelled, “Y’all don’t know who I am.”

The police officers proceeded to charge Taylor and an associate with two misdemeanor charges on disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Game was later released without bail, and performed at Winston-Salem State University.

Game revealed to WFMY News 2, “They thought I was Rodney King. I would play the racial card but we’ve done that too much. I’m here for the concert, and signing a little girl’s autograph got me arrested.”

Jay-Z Makes History

By Elle Castro

Last night marked a historical moment in Hip-Hop at the Continental Arena in East Rutherford, NJ, when Jay-Z and Nas rocked the stage together.

The Clear Channel (Power 105.1) sponsored event served as a platform of peace and unity amongst East Coast rappers. Initially the concert was tagged as Jay-Z’s “I Declare War” show, and at the end of the night Hip-Hop history was made as the feud between some of the greatest lyricists came to an end. The stage was on the fire with the combination of acts such as Jay-Z/Nas, The Lox/Diddy and T.I./Young Jeezy. Besides these unions, Beanie Sigel put an end to the rumors of him signing to G-Unit as he wore a chain that read “Roc 4 Life.”

The biggest moment of the concert was when Hov said, “It’s bigger than ‘I declare war.’ It’s like the muthaf**kin’ president presenting the United Nations. Let’s go, Esco!”

Nas continued, “A lot of ni**as is makin’ money and still f**kin’ mad at the world! We [are] savin’ the East Coast with your help.”

The beef between the two was finally over. The two performed Jay’s “Dead Presidents” together. Nas proceeded to rock the stage with some of his classics such as “The World Is Yours,” “New York State of Mind” and “It Ain’t Hard to Tell.” He was then joined by Sean “Diddy” Combs to perform “Hate Me Now.”

Other artists that were apart of this magic include Kanye West with Paul Wall for “Drive Slow,” Ne-Yo, Peedi Peedi, Memphis Bleek, T.I., Sauce Money, Young Jeezy, Freeway and Teiarra Mari.

Another surprise erupted when Freeway was on stage rapping his verse on “What We Do,” and Beanie Sigel joined him.

Near the conclusion of the show Jay commented, “We all in this s**t together. Y’all witnessed history. Everybody in this building is a part of history. All that beef s**t is wack.”

“As it was coming together, I see Puff perform with The Lox, T.I. perform with Jeezy, the return of Beanie Sigel…so I said f**k it,” revealed Hov. “So you know what I did for y’all, what I did for Hip-Hop?”

President Carter concluded the concert with his appropriate track, “Encore” being that is exactly what he delivered for his fans. The show came to an end with thousands of audience members screaming, “Hova, Hova, Hova.”

And it was done, history was made.

Tony Yayo Sends Warning to Benzino

By Jesse Fairfax

G-Unit soldier Tony Yayo recently called Star and Bucwild’s morning show on NYC’s Power 105, telling Raymond “Benzino” Scott to never to write about G-Unit again in The Source.

According to Yayo, Benzino was scared and wanted to talk with him. Several weeks later, the November issue of The Source taunted “G-Unot” on the cover.

Yayo says, “My response is no more passes cause I sat back and I gave him [Benzino] a pass. He disrespected me by doing that. I’m bigger than that. Anybody who has to use a magazine as a weapon is soft. He can’t even go through Boston. They set his car on fire.”

Yayo’s Thoughts of A Predicate Felon dropped August 30th, selling 214,687 CDs its first week according to SoundScan. In the G-Unot issue, The Source says this is an indication that the G-Unit brand is slipping.

However,50’s partner in crime disagrees. “I could have did more than 215,000, I dropped the same day as Kanye West-he’s a Grammy Award winner and had way more promotion than me. [He had] Pepsi commercials, all kinds of things that I couldn’t do. That was one of the biggest numbers that came out this year. Everybody else that came out was doing 100,000 and change. I did 215 with a Grammy award winner.”

The Queens, NY rapper is getting ready for the release of Free Yayo, a video game soon to be available on wireless phones. He’s also in talks to release his own liquor, start an adult entertainment agency and will appear in 50 Cent’s Bulletproof video game and Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ soundtrack.

The Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ soundtrack featuring Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Olivia, Mobb Deep and M.O.P. is scheduled to hit stores November 8th.
